From the strategic viewpoint or the Spanish Crown, the mariana islands were just one more element in their control of the Pacific, which was seen as an Hispanic domain close to ships rom other countries. As in other colonies in the Hispanic empire, the Mariana islands suffered due to lack of interest from the "mother" country.
